Shri SankarlalSundarbaiShasun Jain College for Women has been endlessly working to meet the Educational needs of each and every student. Apart from this, the college has also been concerned about the welfare of the society. Shasun college has been involved in number of social activities too. As a result of which, the college has adopted “Kaliyanur” village in Kancheepuram district. Totally there are 600 families, majority of them are involved in farming. As a contribution to our honourable Prime Minister shri. Narendra Modi’s swachhbharat scheme, the college has renovated the “Toilet” facilities in Panchayat union middle school. Kaliyanur village was adopted by college on 28-09-2017. With the blessings of the secretary shri. s. Abbaya Kumar Jain Srisrimal of shasun college, adaptation program has been successfully inaugurated with shri. R. Ashok Kumar Mehta (Associate Secretary), smt. Usha AbbayaKumar(Executive council member), Dr. B. Poorna(principal) accompanied by teachers of the college. The representatives of shasun college were welcomed by panchayat president Mr. Vasudevan, head master of the school MohanaGandhi and the village people. The college handed over the renovated toilet for the students’s use. Adding to it, the college also provided 400 books, 200 tables and chairs, book racks for public use which gave face lift to the dormant library

The students are being benefited through the renovated library. In order to get well-versed in daily events, newspapers such as DailyThanthi,Dinamalar and The Hindu are being provided. Under the guidance of the president of the village and the headmaster of the school, the library is functioning well. Besides, important festivals are being conducted by the shasun college teachers accompanied by students. Shasun college celebrated Deepavali festival by distributing sweets and crackers to the village people. 50 students and 10 professors of the college took part in pongal celebration being conducted in the village and also created awareness on smokeless bhogi. Cultural activities such as villupattu and various dances also took part. Postgraduate students visited farm lands and had conversation with village people. As per the village custom, traditional Pongal and kadambakulambuwere also distributed. Finally, the students happily travelled in the bullockcart and reached railway station. Students belonging to various clubs of the college provided their service not only to the college but also to kaliyanur village. One year plan has been implicated by shasun students and teachers for the following events: Spoken English for school students, Self help activities for women like Jewellery making. Free eye check up, filling up bank details and Maths classes for 10th students are also planned for kaliyanur village people. This service will continue for other three years and it is also proposed to construct a compound wall for the school by next year. People of the village are happy on the services provided by the shasun college.
