Overview

The Department of Psychology for undergraduate level (B.Sc. Psychology) was established in the year 2014 with a batch of 14 students. At present, the department has over 170 students with a dedicated team of eight faculties. All the faculty members in the department have qualified for the NET (National Eligibility Test) in Psychology. In the academic year (2020-21) the Department stepped into its next milestone by establishing a Postgraduate Course in Psychology. The UG and the PG program offered by the Department are affiliated with the University of Madras.
The Department periodically provides practical exposure to its students through internships, field visits, value-added courses, seminars, workshops, and research paper presentations. A few regular courses offered by the Department for UG are Expressive Art therapy; Counselling Skills & techniques and Transactional Analysis based programs.
The Department also extends its service through the College Counselling Cell (Sukhada), which offers counselling and therapeutic support to all staff and students within the campus through regular one-on-one sessions, group training programs, and psychological workshops.
The vision of the Department is to spread the vitality of mental health professions and create minds equipped to handle a society with varying mental health needs. The Department functions on providing a conducive environment to all its members by encouraging autonomy, inclusivity, and ethical thinking.
