Overview
The Department of Psychology for postgraduate level (M.Sc. Applied Psychology (Specialization in counselling) was established in the year 2020-21 with a batch of 25 students. The duration of the course is two academic years. The PG program offered by the Department is affiliated with the University of Madras.
The Department periodically provides practical exposure to its students through internships, field visits, valued-added courses, seminars, workshops, and research paper presentations.
The Postgraduate course is structured specifically to train the students in various fields of Psychology through a strong theoretical foundation combined with a completely applied and practical orientation. The course will provide training in Principal domains of the discipline such as Counselling; Psychotherapy; Contemporary therapies; Social psychology; Cognitive Psychology, Neuroscience; Psychopathology, Research; Training and Development; Organisational and Workplace Counselling. The thrust is to ensure the students master the theoretical know-how, imbibe assessment and intervention skills required for the various fields of interest.
The Department also extends its service through the College Counselling Cell (Sukhada), which offers counselling and therapeutic support to all staff and students within the campus through regular one-on-one sessions, group training programs and psychological workshops.
