SARA
Shasun launched a life size Humanoid Robot Assistant SARA, an acronym for Shasun’s Adaptive Robotics Assistant. It was created by the students of the college in technical association with Do-it-Yourself Academy (DIYA), on 23rd September 2019 at 9.00.a.m. in the college premises. SARA takes the pride of being the first robot, launched among the Arts & Science colleges in Chennai.
At six feet tall and weighing 29.2 kgs, the robot is driven by Artificial Intelligence and was built to welcome guests and visitors into the college. The creators of SARA were the third year students of Computer Applications S. Nivedinee, R.Madhumitha, A. Khushi, S.Vithika, R. Hemapriya and M. Bhavana Kanooga. It took six months for the staff and students in the process. Firstly, the height of the robot and its targeted function was determined. Once it was finalized, the programming was encoded and frames of mild steel along with a shell of FRP (Fibre Reinforced Plastic) were designed to sculpt the machine. Then, Ultrasonic Sensors to detect obstacles, webcam capable of facial recognition and seven-inch interactive tablet were fitted in to ensure maximum output.
However, with the evolution of robotic technology and robots being the need of the hour, SARA is the first in the country and is a great innovation in the field of human interfacing robots.
