Summary
The Centre for Excellence in Art and Culture celebrated Margazhi Utsav 2026, marking the auspicious Tamil month of Margazhi (Mārgaśīrṣa), a period deeply revered for its spiritual and cultural significance.
A major highlight of the festival was the collective rendition of the Tiruppāvai by the students of the Centre for Excellence in Art and Culture. Rendered in the true spirit of bhakti and seva, the sacred hymns of Āṇḍāḷ—traditionally sung during Margazhi—set a deeply devotional tone and sanctified the proceedings.
The festival witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 58 budding artistes, including students trained under Guru Lalita Ganapathy, Guru Suvasini, Mrs. Kamali, Dr. Ramakrishnan Neelamani, and Dr. Lakshmi Jayapriya. The students showcased a vibrant array of performances encompassing Carnatic vocal music, classical dance, instrumental recitals, and the traditional folk art of Kolattam, reflecting their rigorous training and artistic dedication.
The young artistes were honoured and encouraged by the esteemed presence of Guru Lalita Ganapathy, senior disciple of Padmavibhushan Dr. Padma Subramaniam; Mridangam Vidwan Dr. Ramakrishnan Neelamani; and Dr. Ramadevi Sekhar, Director, Centre for Excellence in Art and Culture. Their participation added scholarly depth and spiritual inspiration to the event.
