Description : The Internal Quality Assurance Cell and Centre of Excellence – Art & Culture of Shri Shankarlal Sundarbai Shasun Jain College for Women organized a two-day workshop on Cheriyal Painting in collaboration with SPIC MACAY (Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth) on 13.08.2025 and 14.08.2025.

The resource person Shri. Nageswara Rao, is a renowned artist specializing in Cheriyal painting, a traditional art form from Telangana, India. Belonging to a family deeply rooted in this heritage where both his father and grandfather were State Award winners—Shri Nageswara Rao carries forward a rich artistic legacy. He, along with his son Shri Sai Kiran, actively engaged and trained students during the workshop.

Participants learned the unique techniques of Cheriyal painting, known for its vivid colours, intricate detailing, and storytelling tradition that narrates epics, folklore, and rural life. The art form not only enhances creativity and fine motor skills but also instills a sense of cultural identity and appreciation for traditional craftsmanship.

27 students participated in this workshop experienced the meditative nature of the painting process, which promotes focus, patience, and relaxation, making it both artistically rewarding and personally enriching.

Outcome: The initiative served as a vibrant platform for young artists to gain hands-on experience, explore a centuries-old tradition, and contribute to the preservation of India's cultural heritage.
